“YOU ARE MISTAKEN”

BY STEVE NIEMEIER

Jesus tells the Sadducees in Matthew 22:29 that they were mistaken because they did not know the Scriptures nor the power of God.  He was referring to their questions concerning the resurrection and marriage after resurrection.  It was very obvious that Jesus knew the Sadducees should have known the scriptures and what the scriptures taught.

Many of us need to take heed to what Jesus said to these Sadducees in Matthew 22.  More than once in my life have I been mistaken because I did not put the time and effort into knowing what the scriptures taught on a particular subject.  It does take time and effort to study the Word of God.  It also takes dedication and commitment on one's part to spend this time and effort.

Parents need to take the time and effort for themselves and to make sure their children spend the proper time and effort in studying and learning from God's word.  Our society is an “on the go” society and children are in many different activities.  The one activity that seems to suffer is the activity of learning about the Word of God.  Parents will be held accountable for this.

All of us that are of the age of accountability will be held responsible for our knowledge of God's word (Acts 17:30).  It is amazing how busy we make ourselves and still do what we want to do.  When we state we do not have time to read and study the Bible, it seems that we are in violation of Matthew 6:33.  We need to correct this now so that we do not hear the words “you are mistaken” on Judgment Day!
