“NEEDING HELP”

BY STEVE NIEMEIER

The 121st Psalm is one of my favorite passages in the Bible.  We find where our help comes from and it comes from our Lord who created the heavens and the earth (vss. 1 & 2).  We find that He is our keeper and our protector.  He will preserve us from evil and will preserve our way.  With One (our God) taking care of us what more can we need?

Most of the time we need help we turn to God but usually it is the way of “Why did You let this happen to me?”  When we are doing well and everything is on the upbeat we may seldom talk with God and give Him the glory and praise for the things going well in our lives.  Yet, when things go wrong God seems to be the One on the firing line!

John 3:16 tells us God loved us so much that He gave His son for us.  He gave Him so that we might have the hope of eternal life.  We can have that eternal life through Christ by obeying His gospel which is the good news for our salvation.  Being the recipients of such a gift as this does it sound like the giver wants bad things to happen to us?

In reality we must learn and accept that God wants our souls to spend eternity with Him in heaven.  To do so we must come to Him through His Son.  No matter what our need is, God is always there to help us.  May we give God the glory for our lives as they are a gift from Him and may we turn to Him in our time of need --- not to blame Him but seek comfort from Him.  He is our heavenly Father and He wants us to be secure eternally with Him no matter what afflictions we might have here on this earth.
