“ONE NATION UNDER GOD!!!”

BY STEVE NIEMEIER

January 22, 1973 stands as a dark day in the history of these United States of America.  On this day the Supreme Court of the United States issued a decision in the case of Roe vs. Wade that legalized abortion in the United States of America. A decision that U.S. Rep. (R-IN) Mike Pence states “is one of the worst legal decisions to ever be handed down by a Supreme Court.”  Freedom is something that we all take for granted and many of us have never had to fight for.  Yet from the Revolutionary War to the Persian Gulf War, men and women from our nation have given their lives so that we can enjoy freedom.  It is beyond this writer's comprehension that men such as George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and many other “statesmen” that stood bravely to defend the rights of freedom, would have ever thought that someone would go as far as to stretch the realms of freedom to mean “legalized murder” of innocent children in their mother's womb.

Yet, as the Supreme Court's decision back on that dark day of history proves, we have abandoned the laws of righteousness as set forth by the Word of God and fallen victim to the encouragement of Satan to do as we please.  This decision stands as a tarred reminder of other decisions that our government has decided to “overrule” God Almighty on.  Decisions such as when and where one can pray, when and where a parent can discipline a child, creating holidays named after a man and yet allowing “business as usual” on the Lord's Day. Decisions such as these should cause us as Christian's great concern.

We now have a second term administration that replaced one that was full of immorality.  As William Jefferson Clinton now is in the role of a private citizen much has been written and said about the legacy of his administration.  Mr. Clinton treated the Presidency of this great United States without the respect and honor the position requires.  Mr. Clinton used the position to “treat” himself to sexual pleasure, pardon his friends from their crimes and “bully” his way around an indictment for lying under oath and obstructing justice.  The nation spent the eight years of his office declining morally while hiding under the deceit that economic stabilization was the major issue before us.  This unfortunately has been a trend that did not start just eight years ago but many years ago.  History shows that we as citizens of this great nation have misused and abused the privilege of freedom.  Our past President is just one example of this abuse.

Even though the war in middle east dominates their focus we issue an urgent message to the Bush administration to return the freedom to pray when and where we want to pray, to discipline our children according to the Scriptures, to remember the Lord on the Lord's Day and to abandon the decision of that dark day back on January 22, 1973.  Our country has been the greatest country in the world.  However, Satan is chipping away and with each day he is tearing at the “freedom” that our forefathers fought for.  In our Pledge of Allegiance we have a statement that says, “One Nation under God,” our plea is that our President will turn his thoughts to this statement and use the written Law of God, the last Will and Testament of His Son Jesus as his guide to lead this great nation of ours.  Mr. Bush's legacy remains to be written but his words concerning God mean nothing if his administration doesn't lead as God would have them to!  We as Christians should use the tools given us as citizens of this nation to encourage him to do so.  Why not write to your Congressman, your Senator and yes even the President himself and encourage him to lead our country according to the infallible Law of Liberty?  The future of our children, grandchildren and our country depend on the righteousness of our nation (Psalm 14:34).
