HOW DID HE DO IT?
BY STEVE NIEMEIER
“Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them, and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with rooms, and cover it inside and out with pitch” (Genesis 6:13-14). Noah was not a young man when the Lord gave him this commandment. Only Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives would be allowed into this ark. Can you imagine how Noah must have felt when the Lord explained that the world was going to be destroyed by water except for these eight people? Also, can you imagine receiving the instructions for animals, birds, creeping things and food to sustain you during this destruction?
The question comes to me of “How did he do it?” Did Noah have a crew to work on this ark? Did just Noah and his sons and their wives work on the ark? How did he do it? Several “scholars” have written articles about how wealthy Noah was and he probably “hired” workers to assist in the building of this ark. It is interesting that all we have recorded is “Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood.....” in Genesis 6:14. This is a command to Noah to make something for himself. While we can “speculate” and “scholars” can “theorize” on who helped him get the ark built, we have recorded that Noah was to build for himself an ark.

How did he do it? He did it according to what God commanded (Genesis 6:22). Just the same way you or I are to make perparations for our safety when the Lord destroys this earth for the final time---we are to prepare the way God commands!(Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16). Many times we try to “justify” actions of the scriptures by what men believe happened. Let us heed the words of Jesus in Luke 18:27, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Noah did it because God told him to do it and he did it according ot God's commands. That is how he did it and we are to do it! Anything else is just speculation!
