CALLING EVIL GOOD

BY DAVID SAIN

Many years ago, a prophet of God wrote, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil...” (Isaiah 5:20).

It occurs to me that we are part of a generation that is doing exactly that.  The drunkard is no longer a “sinner;” he is just “sick.”  The coupl who lives together before marriage are not “fornicators;” they have a “meaningful relationship.”  The person who goes shopping half-naked is not “immodest;” that person is just conforming to the “fashion” of our day.

Well, friend, I want you to know that drunkenness, immodesty, and sex outside of marriage are still condemned by the Lord, and they, which do such things, shall not inherit the Kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21).

SWIFT TO HEAR

BY STEVE NIEMEIER

James 1:19 states “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man dows not produce the rughteousness of God.”  What a statement, while there are other passages that teach us to bear the fruits of the Spirit herer is a passage that tells us that we are to avoid wrath or really anything that does not produce righteousness.

One would think that as we get older we would become wiser and be able to avoid the swiftness to speak.  However, I must admit that I have to constantly work on this.  What about you?  None of us want to produce unrighteousness and really we should be working hard at not doing so.  This item of being swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath (James 1:19) is one that we must continue to practice as the gongue is one of Satan's most powerful and popular tools to use (James 3:3-12).

By practicing the jumility that we are told to practice (James 4:10) we will find ourselves keeping quiet and thinking about what we say, before we say something that we wish we had thought about before saying it!

The Lord teaches us to work bogether and to practice unity.  By practicing unity and brotherly love we will help each other avoid the snares of Satan in this area and we will be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath!
