A WORD ABOUT MOTHERS

BY STEVE NIEMEIER

In John 19:26-27 as Jesus was on the cross His mother was there as was her sister.  Jesus saw His mother and His disciple and friend and said to His mother “Behold your son!”  To His desciple and friend He said, “Behold your mother!”  We see from that hour forward that the disciple took the mother of Jesus to his home.  Mothers are special.  Jesus recognized that fact and wanted His mother to be cared for by his good friend and disciple.

Children must honor their mothers' everyday of their life according to Paul in Ephesians 6:2 as he quotes from Deuteronomy 5:16; “Honor your father and your mother...”  Certianly a good mother is worthy of honor everyday by her children.  While there is a day set aside to especially honor our mothers, I wonder how many of us actually bring honor to them daily.  Whether those of us who are men like or not, we would not be a successful father in many cases if we did not have a wife that was a dedicated mother ot our children!

However, we do have mother's today that are not honorable as some abuse their children and some even kill their children.  For all of us that have or had a mother that was honorable, let us take time to honor them daily.  Also, let us not forget the mother in laws that many of us have.  Personnaly, the Lord has blest me with both, and honorable mother and mother-in-law.  Many times as we live our lives we forget the true blessings that are the closest to us.

For us husbands we need to remember the bride of our youth also daily.  The blessing of an honorable mother and mother-in-law is enhanced when the wife of your youth is also a loving mother to your children.  The beauty of their honor is truly seen in their graddaughters and daughters who have become honorable mothers.

“For her worth is far above rubies”
