SENSE OF A GOOSE
Author Unknown
When you see geese heading north for the summer flying in a “V” formation you might be interested in knowing why they fly that way.
As each bird flaps its wings, it creates uplift for the bird immediately following. So by flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.
Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels drag and resistance of trying to go it alone and very quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front.
When the lead bird gets tired, he rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point. The geese honk behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
When a goose gets sick or wounded and falls out, two other geese go down with him to help protect him. They stay with him until he is either able to fly, or dies. Then they head out on their own to catch their own group or hook up with another one.
It seems that if we had the sense of a goose then we would realize just how much we really need each other.
(EDITORS NOTE: While many of us have seen this little story before, I appreciate one or our members giving me a copy of this because of its deep meaning. The Lord has blessed us and will keep on blessing us here at Greenwood if we do His will. Loving each other and watching out for each other is a portion of His will. While we all have different personalities and are prisoners of our own past inefficiencies as well as having different talents we can learn from the geese and not bring unrighteous judgement on one another but help one another as we all strive for the eternal home of heaven.
Also, as one of us has problems let everyone else do what we can to help. A congregation that will do the little things of looking out for one another while staying focused on the planting and watering of the gospel of Jesus Christ will be a congregation that will never have to worry about its candelstick being removed.
For young and old alike that are members of the congregation here at Greenwood let us rally around each other as we evangelize the community, edify one another and do benevolence work for those who need it so that the Lord will be exalted and we as a congregation will be benefited!)
